Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Legal Assistant collects, uses, discloses, stores, and otherwise processes personal information when you access or use the Legal Assistant platform, including our website, accounts, lawyer profiles, messaging tools, booking flows, support channels, and related services.

Important Notice

Legal Assistant is a technology platform that connects users with independent lawyers. This Privacy Policy covers how Legal Assistant handles personal information in connection with the platform. It does not govern the separate privacy practices of independent lawyers with whom you choose to communicate or engage.

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed by Legal Assistant in connection with the platform, whether you are browsing publicly available pages, registering an account, messaging through the platform, booking a consultation, managing a lawyer profile, or contacting support.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information handled solely by third parties or by independent lawyers outside the platform, even if you originally connected with them through Legal Assistant.

2. Categories of Information We Collect

We collect information directly from you, automatically from your use of the platform, and from service providers or other sources needed to operate the platform and maintain safety.

  • Account and identity information, such as name, email address, phone number, login credentials, account status, and verification records.
  • Profile and professional information, including lawyer biographies, practice areas, office location, bar admissions, consultation fees, availability, languages, websites, and related credentials.
  • Booking and transaction information, such as consultation requests, appointment times, cancellations, reschedules, payment-related events, refund activity, and associated records.
  • Communications and content, including messages, attachments, support tickets, reviews, ratings, and feedback submitted through the platform.
  • Technical and usage information, such as IP address, browser type, device characteristics, approximate location inferred from IP, pages visited, timestamps, referring URLs, and interaction data.
  • Security and fraud-prevention information, including login attempts, session history, abuse indicators, moderation data, and risk signals generated by our systems or service providers.

3. Information You Provide Directly

You may provide personal information when you create an account, complete a profile, search for lawyers, submit intake information, exchange messages, request a consultation, leave a review, upload verification documents, or contact support.

If you provide information about another person, you represent that you have the right to do so and to authorize us to process that information consistent with this Privacy Policy.

4. Information We Collect Automatically

When you use the platform, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain information through cookies, local storage, server logs, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies.

This information helps us authenticate users, maintain sessions, remember settings, measure engagement, diagnose issues, prevent abuse, and improve platform performance.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, maintain authentication state, support security features, remember preferences, and analyze platform usage.

  • Essential technologies help keep you signed in, secure accounts, route traffic correctly, and support core platform functions.
  • Functional technologies may remember language, interface, or device preferences.
  • Analytics and performance technologies may help us understand usage trends and improve user experience.
  • You may be able to limit certain cookies through browser controls, but some platform features may not work correctly if essential technologies are disabled.

6. How We Use Personal Information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the platform and its features.
  • Create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and administer sessions.
  • Display profiles, facilitate messaging, support consultation requests, and manage booking workflows.
  • Process payments, refunds, and related financial records through payment service providers.
  • Verify identity, review lawyer eligibility, moderate content, and enforce platform rules.
  • Respond to support requests, disputes, abuse reports, and operational issues.
  • Send transactional messages, security alerts, reminders, policy updates, and other service-related communications.
  • Monitor usage, troubleshoot errors, prevent fraud, detect unauthorized access, and protect the rights, property, and safety of Legal Assistant and others.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from regulators, courts, or law enforcement.

7. Legal Bases for Processing

Depending on where you are located and the context of processing, we may process personal information because it is necessary to perform a contract with you, because we have legitimate business interests in operating and securing the platform, because you have provided consent, or because processing is required to comply with law.

Where consent is the basis for processing, you may withdraw consent where permitted by law, though withdrawal will not affect prior lawful processing.

8. How We Share Personal Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We may share personal information as reasonably necessary to operate the platform, provide requested services, maintain security, and comply with law.

  • With lawyers and users, to facilitate profile viewing, messaging, consultation requests, bookings, and other requested interactions.
  • With service providers that help us operate the platform, such as hosting, analytics, identity verification, customer support, communications, moderation, and payment providers.
  • With affiliates, advisors, auditors, insurers, or professional service providers as needed for legitimate business operations.
  • With regulators, courts, law enforcement, or other parties when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or platform integrity.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, or similar transaction.
  • With your direction or consent, including where you choose to interact with a third-party integration or service.

9. Messaging, Intake Data, and Sensitive Information

The platform may enable users to send messages, attachments, matter descriptions, and other intake-related information to lawyers. Some of that information may be sensitive depending on the nature of the legal matter.

You should avoid submitting highly sensitive information unless it is necessary for your intended interaction and you are comfortable doing so. Communications sent before a lawyer formally agrees to represent you may not receive the same protections as communications with retained counsel.

We may process platform communications to deliver the service, moderate abuse, investigate incidents, maintain security, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.

10. Lawyer Verification and Professional Records

For lawyers using the platform, we may collect and process identity verification materials, government-issued identification details, selfie-based verification results, bar admission information, administrative review notes, and related compliance records.

We use this information to assess eligibility, maintain trust and safety, support platform administration, and document verification decisions.

11. Payments and Financial Information

When payments are supported, payment transactions may be processed by third-party processors. Legal Assistant may receive transaction confirmations, limited billing metadata, payout-related information, refund status, and fraud or compliance signals, but we do not necessarily store full payment card information ourselves.

Your payment information may also be subject to the privacy practices and terms of the applicable payment provider.

12. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the platform, maintain business and legal records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, investigate incidents, and comply with legal obligations.

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information, the nature of the relationship, technical and operational needs, and applicable law. We may retain certain records longer where required for security, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, litigation, or regulatory purposes.

13. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, and disclosure.

No method of transmission over the internet or method of storage is completely secure. As a result, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the platform at your own risk.

14. International Transfers

We may store and process information in the United States and in other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate. Data protection laws in those jurisdictions may differ from the laws of your location.

Where required, we take steps designed to provide appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

15. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights regarding access to, correction of, deletion of, portability of, or restriction of certain personal information, as well as the right to object to certain processing activities.

You may also update some account or profile information directly through platform settings. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.

16. California Privacy Rights

If California privacy law applies to you, you may have the right to request access to specific pieces or categories of personal information we collected, request deletion of certain personal information, request correction of inaccurate personal information, and receive information about how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information.

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. We do not knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in a manner that would require a California opt-out notice unless and until such practices are implemented and disclosed.

You may exercise applicable California rights by contacting us through the support tools available on the platform. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

17. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Because there is not a universally accepted standard for how to respond to these signals, the platform may not respond to all Do Not Track signals in a uniform way.

18. Children’s Privacy

The platform is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the platform. If we learn that we have collected such information without appropriate authorization, we will take steps to delete it as required by law.

19. Third-Party Sites and Services

The platform may link to third-party websites, services, or tools. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, or content practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their policies before providing information to them.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, technical, or business changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.

Your continued use of the platform after the updated Privacy Policy becomes effective indicates your acknowledgment of the revised policy, to the extent permitted by law.

21. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to submit a privacy request, please use the support tools available through the Legal Assistant platform dashboard or the applicable contact method identified on the site at the time of your request.
